We are immensely happy and proud to communicate that Thursday till Sunday has just received a Tiger Award at the International Film Festival Rotterdam 2012, which means a great international recognition. The three identical Tiger Awards are chosen by the jury, and are given to the best films of the Tiger Awards competition, the most important section of the festival. The award consists in € 15,000 for each one of the winners.
This was the jury’s verdict:
“In focus, this film is a very precise and gentle depiction of the intimate space of a family. We are captured in a journey seen through a child’s perspective, and recall the moments of our own childhood, at the same time experiencing and understanding all the complexities that adult life entails. The minimalistic story is revealed through the fresh angles of the camerawork. A gentle piece, rich with sensitive observations.”
The other two Tiger Awards went to Egg and Stone by Huang Ji, y Clip, by Maja Milos.
We are celebrating!

Screendaily published a review for Thursday till Sunday.
A quote:
“As with so many road trip films, the story is about the journey rather than any kind of resolution. There are no answers reached as the family meander through motels and campsites, but the subtle visuals emphasise the growing apart of the adults. Astute cinematography by Barbara Alvarez (shooting on 16mm film rather than digital) helps define the atmosphere, while Sotomayor directs with calm assurance.”

Variety has issued a great review for Thursday till Sunday after its two first screenings in Rotterdam.
A quote:
“Sotomayor’s instincts are sure, capturing the little asides parents use to communicate when their kids are around, not realizing how much is actually being picked up in the back seat. It’s not a question of words but atmosphere, and the helmer’s delicate handling of her superb child actors (remarkably, both are first-timers) enable a wellspring of uncertain emotions to float to the surface. In Sotomayor’s talented hands, childhood is captured in all its conflicting moods, with an uneven combination of impatience, excitement, insecurity, freedom and dependence.”

We can finally announce that Thursday till Sunday will have its World Premiere in the Official Competition of the International Film Festival Rotterdam 2012 (Tiger Awards Competition).
The first feature by both Dominga Sotomayor and Cinestación has been noted like this by the curatorial team:
“Sotomayor’s feature film début, expertly shot by Barbara Alvarez, is a Chilean road movie set in and around the car belonging to a middle-class family. Seen through eyes of the kids in the back, they embark on a four day holiday trip to the north, while the marriage is falling apart. Dominga Sotomayor’s short film Videojuego was screened in Rotterdam in 2010. De jueves a domingo was selected for the Cannes Cinéfondation Résidence 2010.”
We are very happy and proud to be able to announce this.
There is more information about the 2012 edition of the festival here.
